OVERVIEW: The Production Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and maintaining production schedules to ensure timely manufacturing and delivery of products. This role works closely with production, engineering, purchasing, and sales teams to balance customer demand, material availability, and manufacturing capacity while supporting Ideal Electric’s quality, safety, and delivery commitments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Develop, govern, and communicate detailed production schedules for manufacturing operations.
  • Coordinate with production supervisors to ensure schedules are achievable and aligned with labor and equipment capacity.
  • Monitor material availability and work closely with Purchasing to avoid shortages or delays.
  • Adjust schedules as needed due to changes in customer demand, priorities, or production constraints.
  • Track production progress and updating schedules to reflect actual performance.
  • Communicate schedule changes and priorities clearly to internal teams.
  • Support on-time delivery goals by identifying and resolving potential bottlenecks.
  • Maintain accurate scheduling data in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Participate in production meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Lead capacity planning and long-range scheduling as needed.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
 
  • Proven experience in production scheduling or planning within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve scheduling conflicts and bottlenecks.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate across departments (Engineering, Sales, Production).
  • Understanding supply chain management, inventory control, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Ability to remain adaptable when production priorities shift.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORK HOURS
  • Daily minimum of 8 hours. Weekly 40 hour minimum. Overtime is required, subject to production schedules and may vary based upon specific customer needs
  • May be exposed to confined spaces
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
 
  • is regularly required to talk and hear
  • is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and enter small and/or confined spaces
  • is occasionally required to sit, climb, and/or balance
  • must be able to lift 50-75 pounds, climb ladders and scaffolding to heights of 30 feet with regularity
  • must be able to exhibit specific vision abilities required by this job which include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
