OVERVIEW: The Materials Manager is responsible for the strategic and tactical oversight of all material flow within our motor and generator manufacturing facility. This role ensures the right materials are available at the right time to support production schedules while managing inventory costs, supplier relationships, and warehouse operations. The ideal candidate will be a data-driven leader capable of optimizing supply chain efficiency and maintaining rigorous compliance standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Inventory Strategy: Direct production and inventory control, shipping and receiving, and materials storage to ensure accurate inspection of incoming goods, maintain optimum stock levels and minimize waste.
  • Procurement Management: Spearhead the sourcing and procurement process, ensuring the best quality and pricing from vendors while maintaining stock levels to avoid stockouts.
  • Production Alignment: Collaborate with departmental production managers to analyze product demand and plant capacity, ensuring materials are kitted staged to meet daily schedules of current floor workorders.
  • Inventory Oversight: Manage purchasing, shipping, and receiving teams and processes for inventory control, including regular audits and investigating/resolving inventory discrepancies.
  • Supplier Relations: Establish and manage contracts with vendors, monitoring performance to ensure compliance with quality and delivery requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to optimize throughput and reduce material handling lead times.
  • Export Compliance: Lead by example with ITAR/EAR compliance; ensure all material technical data and sensitive supplier information are handled according to U.S. export laws.
  • Logistics & Distribution: Oversee all packaging, crating, and shipping operations to ensure products are secured according to quality standards and dispatched efficiently to meet delivery deadlines. 



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in materials management or supply chain within a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Literacy: Expert proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and the Microsoft Office 365 suite, specifically advanced Excel for data analysis.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to forecast demand, manage complex budgets, and interpret production specifications.
  • Certifications: APICS (CPIM or CSCP) certification is highly desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORK HOURS:
  • Industrial Setting: Regular exposure to the production floor, including noise, vibration, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Schedule: Full-time, on-site role. Standard business hours with the requirement to be present during critical production cycles or inventory audits.
  • Fast-Paced: Requires frequent movement between the office and the manufacturing floor to engage with teams and troubleshoot logistics issues.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
  • Regularly moves through a large-scale manufacturing facility and warehouse.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while utilizing standard office equipment.
  • Frequently communicates with internal teams and external suppliers; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Is required to wear full PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection) when on the production floor.
